Green Tips for Your Home Get a thermostat that you can program. In the winter, set your thermostat at 68. In the summer, set your thermostat at 76. Turn off your faucet while shaving or brushing your teeth. Make it a habit to turn lights off when leaving the room. Use compact fluorescent light bulbs. Hang your clothes out to dry. Open up the windows and use ceiling fans to keep the airflow going in your house. Plant your own garden. Use cold water when washing your clothes. Take shorter showers. Reduce. Try to buy less. And when you do shop, buy in bulk. Try to avoid products that use lots of packaging. Reuse. Donate all clothes to charity. Recover old furniture instead of buying new. Use scratch paper. Recycle. Learn what can be recycled and how to do it. Find your local recycling center. Remember that many things can be recycled. Paper. Plastic. Cans and bottles. Even electronics.
