Over the next 12 days, we will be bringing you the 12 Days of Telework. Each day we will highlight 12 different benefits of telework.
Talented individuals are located all over the world and unfortunately sometimes they are not conveniently located next to a company’s office. Here at PGi, we’ve adopted flexible work schedules and encouraged remote work. This has allowed us to hire and retain the top talent from across the globe.
Thanks to innovative technology, the way we work is constantly evolving. Some may never go to an office, while others may go in occasionally. No matter where you are, new tech tools enable your work to go with you.
- Doodle
Sometimes keeping track of everyone’s schedule can be a headache. Doodle provides a fast and simple way to schedule meetings with groups of people. Use it on your desktop, mobile device and across time zones.
- WorkSnug
If you’re traveling for work or just want a change of scenery, WorkSnug can help. This app provides a list of laptop-friendly, WiFi-enabled workspaces in your area.
- Online meeting tools
PGi’s very own GlobalMeet® and iMeet® allow you to be more than just a voice on the other end of the phone. Effortlessly meet face-to-face with colleagues or clients anywhere. The video and integrated audio allows you to clearly see who you are speaking with. It’s almost as good as being in the same room with everyone.
- Hootsuite
Managing multiple social profiles and platforms can become overwhelming, but social is now the go-to for sales prospecting, recruiting and customer outreach. Hootsuite provides an easy-to-use dashboard where you can manage all your accounts from one place and get push alerts if something needs your immediate attention.
- Jive apps
Available for iPads, iPhones and Androids, Jive apps offer easy-to-use solutions for people who work on the go. Easily track progress on key projects, get updates on latest news and collaborate more effectively with colleagues.
These are just a few apps I’ve found helpful to use when working remotely. If equipped with the right tools, flexible work schedules can help workers reduce their stress, increase productivity and produce higher-quality work. Not a believer? Earlier this year, I was hit with a contagious illness during a really busy week at work. Instead of missing out on all of my meetings and falling behind, I was able to work from home while recovering.
By 2015, mobile workers will make up for 37.2 percent of the total workforce. That means 1.3 billion people will be reaping the benefits of being a remote worker. Will you be one of them?
What does your office space look like? Is it a room in your home, a corner table at a coffee shop or the traditional office cubicle?
