Behind the Collaborative Advantage: Meet PGi Sydney’s Melissa Wong

PGi’s employees are passionate, creative, driven by innovation and obsessed with providing best-in-class customer care. We attribute our global success to them and they’re often the first thing mentioned when people share why they love working at PGi. We think they’re special and we would like to share some of their positivity and passion with you. In honor of our award-winning employees we have dedicated the month of June to Employee Appreciation. Every Tuesday in June, we’ll post an employee spotlight from one of our 2,100 global associates, the men and women that bring the Collaborative Advantage to life.

This week, meet Melissa Wong, PGi’s SVP Strategy & Marketing located in Sydney, Australia at PGi’s Asia Pacific headquarters.

Describe a typical day in the office.

I truly enjoy both the strategic and operational challenges of my role. Every day is filled with a different set of priorities ranging from financials to market planning stats to technical product discussions to digital analytics and business strategy and engaging with journalists and industry analysts. Variety and the ability to contribute and deliver measurable impact to the PGi APJ business is what makes my role so rewarding.

What is the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I have been fortunate with many mentors who shared great advice. However, my two favourite ones are: “always think from the other persons’ perspective whether it be a colleague, peer or customer” and “be resilient”.

I value the advice as both are relevant today as they were 15 years ago when they were shared with me.

When you travel, what are the top things you take on the plane with you?

  • My iPhone and iPad synced with a mixture of music genres from Classical, Pop, Fitness tracks and Chinese ballads. Laptop – for working on a business trip or catching up on movies and TV shows.
  • Moisturiser for hands and face to fend off the dry cabin air.
  • Mints to freshen up in between meals.
  • Eye mask and support pillow for extra comfort.

What is the most played song on your iPod right now?

As I am expecting my second child in August this year, I have been drawn to the “50 Greatest Pieces of Classical Music” from the London Philharmonic Orchestra. The soothing music is helping with my relaxation. It’s also therapeutic for baby!

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I cherish the times I have with my husband and our 8 year old daughter Liah, snorkeling, travelling and taking part in culinary experiences! I enjoy spending time with Liah and love capturing our moments whether it be silliness at school drop off, watching her play the piano or when we are just hanging out!
