Why Webcasts Are Saving the Live Events Industry

Why Webcasts Are Saving the Live Events Industry

2020 has proven to be a challenging year for the live events industry. The COVID-19 pandemic impacted the ability for audiences to physically gather safely. Many meeting and event planners quickly converted live events to fully virtual to adapt to the new reality. Responses to a PCMA survey conducted in April 2020 revealed that “7 out of 10 respondents have moved their face-to-face event partially or fully to a virtual platform.” PGi’s GlobalMeet Webcast frequently served as the online event solution for easy hosting and optimal audience engagement.

Fortunately, the live events industry is adapting to new safety protocols and social distancing recommendations so that hybrid in-person/virtual events can operate successfully. There is pent-up demand: an APCO Insight study indicates “78% say they plan to attend as many or more live events when the threat of COVID-19 passes and it is safe to do so.” What does this mean for businesses and other organizations for which live events are a significant revenue driver?

PGi’s own Mark Roberts had the opportunity to talk with Barbara Bouman, Vice President of Live Nation Special Events. Together they discussed best practices and latest trends for the increasingly popular hybrid approach to live events. One best practice crucial to capturing and retaining audience engagement: simultaneous event webcasting with the uninterruptible high-quality audio and video that GlobalMeet Webcast delivers.
